Biography
Shafana is an engaging community builder, facilitator, and executive leader with extensive experience in the public sector and senior leadership roles. She has been a pioneer in advancing Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB), becoming the first Director of Diversity and Inclusion in the Alberta Public Service. Through her consulting practice, she continues to guide organizations in embedding inclusive strategies that strengthen belonging, engagement, and cultural change across sectors. With a CPA, an MBA focused on Strategic EDIB, and a CCIP (Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional) designation, Shafana brings a unique combination of business acumen and human-centred leadership. Her expertise lies in blending strategic business priorities with inclusive practices, enabling organizations to develop practical tools and approaches that enhance collaboration, equity, and organizational performance. Her portfolio spans diverse industries, including post-secondary education, healthcare, performing arts, oil and gas, associations and community non-profits across Canada. Shafana’s work integrates public policy, social justice, and the social determinants of health with inclusive leadership practices. She is recognized for building environments where staff, leaders, and stakeholders alike can fully participate, thrive, and contribute to collective success.
