THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Vice President, People & Culture, the Team Lead, Payroll & Benefits is responsible for the oversight of the Payroll and Benefits team, ensuring timely and accurate administration of the payroll and benefits programs. This position deals with confidential information, performs within stringent deadlines and follows established procedures and a routine schedule.
The Team Lead, Payroll & Benefits may lead and collaborate on projects to support the People & Culture teams initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead all aspects of people management and development for the payroll and benefits team.
• Develop team objectives ensuring alignment with the strategic initiatives of the People & Culture team.
• Oversee the administration of bi-weekly payroll for over 500 employees.
• Oversee the administration of all aspects of the group benefit and RRSP plans, including the processing of all changes, premium submissions, and liaising with suppliers.
• Monthly reconciliation of all required GL accounts relevant to payroll and group benefits.
• Lead the preparation and reconciliation of year-end reporting, including the printing and reconciling of T4’s.
• Investigate, resolve, and communicate payroll, group benefits and RRSP issues; escalate where appropriate.
• Identify and report non-compliance issues and make recommendations for resolution and process improvement.
• Design policies and procedures which influence the effectiveness of payroll and benefit practices and identify and develop continuous improvements that add value to the organization.
• Participate in the implementation of a new HRIS (Human Resources Information System) system, ensure maintenance of the database and provide management reporting.
• Respond to management and employee inquiries regarding payroll, group benefits, RRSP, and monthly reports.
• Provide on-going communication to employees on payroll and benefit matters, including presentations.
• Lead and/or participate in payroll and benefits projects as required.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
• Related University degree, college diploma, formal certification and typically 5 or more years of related experience; or combination of formal education and experience.
• Experience in a people leadership role.
• Knowledge of payroll and benefit trends, payroll, and employment standards legislation.
• Professional designation required (PCP and/or CPM). CEBS designation an asset.
